Because this is Our Singapore

This week sees us being involved in Our Singapore? - an event comprising of the Genericity exhibition and also Really Ar? 5, both of which will be held at Iluma Bugis, Singapore. As passionate participants of the architecture community, we’ve lent our time and energy as the co-curator of Really Ar? 5 and also extended some sponsorship for the event’s opening reception.

We are really excited to see this event unfolding later tonight and so if you are in the area, please drop by! Expect to see photos of the event some time soon too.

Where is your Magical Space?

In 2007, before the first signs of the economic crash in 2009 ever surfaced, Singapore was swept by a frenzy of development and enbloc sales of residential developments. Following a pattern that is commonly seen in many rapidly developing cities over the past decades, places close to the hearts of many were demolished and many pieces of our built heritage were lost in the name of progress. The loss of many Magical Spaces in the city was happening at an increasing rate and we were getting concerned.

We then launched a project called “Magical Spaces”, inviting participants from all over to contribute to 40 Moleskine notebooks. We then did an exhibition of these submissions and produced a book for it.

Relaunch.

Today, we are pleased to tell you that we are relaunching the project website! Visit it now at http://magicalspaces.fivefootway.com.

The website now features all the goodness from that project including the concepts, exhibition photos, details of the publication and also selected entries from the project. We will be gradually uploading the submissions over time so check back often!

Submit yours.

We would also like to invite everyone to continue in this documentation of Magical Spaces by submitting your very own!

Click on the submit button at the sidebar and send us images about your magical space and we’ll feature it on the site.  We look forward to seeing more magical spaces soon!

Visit http://magicalspaces.fivefootway.com and tell us, Where is YOUR magical space?

Be cleansed of your sins. Confess.

As architects ourselves, we know that most practitioners and students experience the discipline with much passion. We can relate to the daily grind, the emotional and moral struggles and even the physical challenges of being an architect and in a way, it is this inner struggle that binds us, the architecture community together.

We wanted to celebrate these deep emotions and provide a platform for people to express them safely, without fear of prejudice or prosecution. Inspired by sites such as PostSecret, we then started a website called Confessions of an Architect.

First online in late 2008,  the website accepts ‘confessions’ through an online form and emails and welcomes anonymous entries or those submitted with a pseudonym in order to nurture an environment that would be safe for freedom of expression.

We have receently made some improvements to the website and we are happy to re-unveil it to you again and we think you’ll love it better than the previous one. We are migrating the old confessions from the old system to the new one on a daily basis so you will be seeing some good stuff coming your way even if you are new to the site. Meanwhile, follow the tumblog, re-blog some of those confessions or better still confess and be cleansed of your sins.

We think you should also ask your fellow architectural sinners to do the same too. Its good for the soul.

Visit http://confessions.fivefootway.com to be pure again.
